Leaping Neurons

This program is based on the initial inspiration for the piece Across the Synapse by Paul Sayed – neurons firing across synapses to pass on signals. Leaping Neurons will first feature an interactive experience with Across the Synapse. Audience members will explore how motifs can be traced across the ensemble through the stereo staging of this piece. They will then create their own motifs, and In Radiance will choose one volunteer to come on stage, share their motif, and have it performed by the quintet. The volunteer, with help from the audience, will decide who plays and at what time, and how the motif might change as it passes from flute to flute. This experience concludes with a full performance of Across the Synapse. The rest of the program features pieces that are paired together by an idea but are represented in drastically different ways. These pairs mirror how our brain can take us from one experience to the next, just as neurons communicate through synapses.
