Gaubert-Porter DVD Project Cover“THE GAUBERT CYCLE: THE COMPLETE WORKS FOR FLUTE & PIANO – A Study Guide with Amy Porter”

Assisted by Tim Carey, piano | Special Guest Dr. Penelope Fischer, historical commentary and collaborator

Fourth in a series of study guides formatted for flutists, Amy Porter immerses students into the rich and melodious music for flute and piano by the enigmatic compositions of Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941). She discusses with Dr. Penny Fischer, the elements of style and expression that can be practiced in this genre of music for flute, and then showcases in a multi-camera production with 16 informed performances of his works for flute and piano after each lecture has concluded.

The DVD format has evolved from Porter’s work as an educator, and has become the creative ground through which her presentation style has blossomed. To date there are three previous DVD study guides: Karg-Elert 30 Caprices for Flute, Op. 107 (2005) and Telemann: 12 Fantasias for Flute without Bass (2008), and The Anatomy of Sound DVD, all distributed by Theodore Presser and available for online download. Also filmed for Carl Fischer is The ABC’s of Flute for the Absolute Beginner.

Philippe Gaubert: The Complete Works for Flute & Piano includes lectures and performances of 16 major works for flute and piano, and includes historical commentary from Dr. Penelope Fischer. Highlighted throughout the DVD will be Dr. Fischer’s treatise from 1982 at the University of Maryland titled Philippe Gaubert, 1879-1941: His Life and Contributions as Flutist, Editor, Teacher, Conductor and Composer.”  Her work on Gaubert is extensive and took her to France, researching at the Paris Conservatoire and the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.  Penelope Fischer was recently awarded the highest honor by the National Flute Association for her service to the organization and to the music industry.
